To be...PERFECT!!!
Let me take a quick moment of your time to bring you back to 1985-86, when the HULL Olympiques aligned guys like Luc Robitaille, Guy Rouleau, Benoit Brunet, Sam Lang just to name a few and add Pat Brisson to that mix.
Back then the playoffs we're a best out of 9 series and not the current best out of 7 series, basicly meaning you had to beat the team 5 times and not 4 to win the bloody thing. Another LHJMQ homerun if you ask me. &%$#*
To make a long story short, the Saint-Jean Sea dogs we're making a run at....PERFECTION. They we're 10-0 before tonights games in Chicoutimi. Like a few other teams in the recent years they we're PERFECT after two rounds. The Rimouski Oceanic had a similar run a few years back with a guy named Sidney Crosby and last years edition of Saint-Jean had enough skill to give it a try but they lost one game to Victoriaville before loosing 2 more to us in the final. I also remember the Lewiston maniacs going 10-0 before loosing a game in the third round in 2007.
If I can go back to 1985-86 now and to it's rediculous format of having rounds that consisted of series that we're best out of 9 series, the HULL Olympiques had an awesome season that saw a lot of franchise records broken.
For exemple:
Wins 54 (still a record to this day)
Losses 18
423 goals (Never will be broken)
Scary numbers for any other team meeting us in the playoffs and those numbers became a realiaty when the Piques took the ice in the post-season that year...
We took out Shawinigan in a perfect 5 games and then we took out Saint-Jean (Not Saint-Jean New Brunswick but Saint-Jean au Québec) which brought us to a dance with Drummondville in the final and off course you guessed it...we also took them out in 5 games...thus resulting in a PERFECT playoff run. The only inPERFECTION to this season was the fact the Piques didn't bring home there first Memorial Cup that year, they lost in the final of the tournment to Jacques Martin Platters a sad conclusion but that's another story for another time.
Everytime the playoffs start in the LHJMQ I have a thought about that record, it always boggles my mind on how many teams looked like they had a chance to equalize that record over the years, especially the last few years with the powerhouses that the league had in store....but the result is the same everytime...they stumble once or twice and god behold the Olympiques of 1986 are still the only team to have done it....PERFECTION.
Having said all of this, the PERFECT 10-0 Sea Dawgs we're in Chicoutimi tonight to try and take a PERFECT 3-0 lead in the series thus having a foot in the final by doing so and trying to do what the Piques did in 1986, having a PERFECT run. I'll skip the entire game and I'll bring straight to the overtime period.
With the game tied at 4, the Hull Olympiques stroke like a bolt of thunder on the Sea Dawgs...euuhmmmm the Hull Olympiques you said??? Weren't they playing the Sagueneens tonight?!?! The Sagueneens fans will certainly tell you yes...but on the other hand the Olympiques franchise has been famous for it's ghost stories over the years. After Jonathan Huberdeau turned the puck over in his own zone a certain Christian Ouellet took a shot at the net that deflected on a certain J-G Pageau to find it's way to Etienne Brodeur stick who simply tipped it in the net for the overtime winner thus placing the Sags right back in the series and most importantly making and keeping the 1986 Hull Olympiques team the only team....well you know....PERFECT!
A part of our team was sent to Chicoutimi on trade dead line day this season. Who would of known that by helping the Sags this season we would also be helping ourselves, another way to perceive this questionable trade. We wasted this season by trading down, but we preserved our heritage.
If I look at the recent years in the "Q" it's easy to notice that the Sea Dogs have done better then us, they eliminated us twice for pete's heaven and they we're the first to win a championship on our ice since the beggining of our excitence, there also probably going to win the championship this season thus being the first team to win back-to-back in 8 years when we did it with the Talbot Group...that's a lot of great accomplishments and my hat goes out to them for being great in pretty much everything they did in the last few years, making better then us lately....making them a great team, heck even a great franchise....also making them a dynasty if they win a Memorial Cup back-to-back....but......BUT...NOT MAKING THEM ONE THING..........PERFECT!!!
Keep dropping the gloves kids, it's part of the game!!!

The only thing worse than the "best of 9" series was the Round-Robin.
